Nonki

Restaurant: Nonki
Branch: AS Fortuna Mandaue City (Beside SkyCable Bldg)
Food: Japanese
Type: Casual Dining
Mode of Payment: Cash/ Card
Tel. No: 4223159

Father Torvz is going on a vacation so we had a little Japanese send off party just for him. Kara, Tonton, Edd, Ceigey and I met up at Seattle's Best before heading down to Nonki AS Fortuna and meet Father Torvz. E totally missed the fun dinner coz she was busy with law exams!

For starters we had Seafood Kaminabe (Priced at 310php). Kaminabe or Japanese paper steamboat has shrimp, fishballs and vegetables on a broth. We also had the special sashimi(price available by request) with salmon and uni sashimi.

We then had bentos for our main course! Beef bento for me (Priced at 250php). 2 small sized tempuras, big serving of Japanese rice, Beef, eggplant fan and vegetable on a bento. Yum!

A variety of sake or rice wine are available and prices differ depending on the brand. Price starts at 160 per serving/shot. It can be served hot ot cold. Cold Sake makes you taste the full sake's semi bitter taste. You'd trully distinguish a cheap sake from a fine sake when its cold. If your ordering a cheap shot of sake, you can mask the cheap taste by having it warmed to give it a smooth kick!

Kara the Tangera! or mad scientist? hehehe

Japengo

Restaurant: Japengo
Address: Parkmall
Food: Japanese, Filipino
Restaurant Type: Buffet/Casual Dining
Mode of Payment: Cash

Japengo is Japanese infused with Filipino Flavor as per Dan, Japengo's Manager. Regina and I were invited to Japengo's maiden buffet and it was an event shared with media people and friends & family of the owners.

The buffet consists of Japanese dishes like makis, sushis gyozas and many more. There were also salad and blueberry cheese "finger desserts"!

My brothers and I share the same love for Gyoza! and I had a whole serving of Gyoza all for myself! weeee!

And California Maki! Just can't get enough of these yummy Japanese Maki with sweet mango, crabstick and cucumber!

Me sneaking at the sushi table. hehehe
Wasn't able to stay long and taste all the food though because of another shoot scheduled that night. But I will on my next visit! : ). I had fun and enjoyed the Gyoza, Maki and Blueberry cheesecake I had during the opening buffet! Opening Promo of Japengo's Eat All You Can Buffet Price is set at 275php per head.

Nonki

Restaurant: Nonki
Branch: SM City Cebu Fiesta Strip
Restaurant Type: Casual Dining
Mode of Payment: Cash/ Card
Food: Japanese

Another lazy afternoon, Edd, Greg and I were strolling around SM and craved for some Japanese for lunch. It was already 2 and yeap we are used to having late lunches and dinners due to our very hectic schedule. hehe. A good Japanese resto inside SM is Nonki! Service is great and the food is good!

Before starting the meal, we were given wet towels with moisturizer to cleanse our hands. Misu soup and potato coleslaw were also served compliments of Nonki!

I love California Maki! And definitely one of the best Cali Maki I had was Nonki's! Their Bento meals are well seasoned and are gratifying. Their Ebi tempura are whole tiger shrimps unlike some other resto wherein the cut the shrimps into half.

September 3, 2009. My college friends and I had scheduled a dinner get together. It was already 7pm and JB was there sitting in a bench at Orchard who then suggested that we eat at Sakura. We, then met up with couple Cher and Robert, Neiloy and Mark. Mae wasn't able to make it though because she overslept. hehehe

We then went inside the lobby where we were waited to be seated and paid for the buffet. Thanks so much to Neiloy for treating me! weeee. Sakura Dinner Buffet costs 26SGD+/897PHP per person.

Serving varieties of Western, Oriental and Japanese food, it's definitely a feast! Food are cooked fresh right after you ordered. We started the meal with Lamb Chops! The lamb chop tasted like pork chop but had a blunt taste. Nonetheless, it was good.

I also had the Thai dish, Satay! I love satay! The nutty sweet sauce, yuuuuum!

Varieties of Sushi are prepared infront of you to assure you that they are fresh! The California Maki and the Egg Maki was a bit dry though. I enjoyed the chili crab and siomais, that i went back for a few more servings.

I helped myself with a bountiful serving of Kiwi, Grapes, Oranges and watermelon! weeee! And the ice cream! ahhhhh

The food may not be that excellent and the place may be a little bit crowded, for 26SGD+, it was definitely worth it! And yeah, one of the cooks had versed me not to take pics of the buffet counter and chef's area because its prohibited. hmmmm.

Yakiniku @ Tempura

Restaurant: Tempura
Address: Sm Northwing North Reclamation Area Cebu City
Restaurant Type: Casual Dining
Food: Japanese, Yakiniku
Mode of payment: Cash/Card

August 15, 2009. It was Edd's birthday, MYOH 09 and SM Mallwide sale! Traffic was so heavy that it'll take you at least 30minutes just to find a parking space! wheeeew! Edd, Greg, Shake, Malot and I were starving after buying some stuff and decided to have yakiniku at Tempura.

We had California Maki (125php for 8pcs.) for our appetizer. I find Tempura's version of Cali Maki better than Teriyaki Boy! Tempura's California Maki has bigger slices of sweet mango and crab and I love their Japanese Mayo!

Shake and Greg were so hungry and can't wait for our yakiniku sothey ordered Katsudon (150php).

We ordered Tori(chicken, price: 195php) and buta (pork, price: 195php) Yakiniku! Loved the Buta Yakiniku! Thin pork strips marinated in special Japanese soy sauce!

And Kaisen Raisu(130php) tasted great! Semi chili- semi sweet with corn kernels, crunchy string beans and carrots topped with anchovies.

After our piggin out session at Tempura, we were then off to Jed Madela's Concert at the Waterfront!

Teriyaki Boy!

Restaurant: Teriyaki Boy
Address: 204 2nd floor The Terraces Ayala Center Cebu
Restaurant Type: Casual Dining
Food: Japanese
Mode of Payment: Cash/Card

August 10, 2009. After our meeting with ABS CBN KWK dancers at Starbucks, we were starving. It was around 8pm and we were craving for some Japanese. The nearest Japanese Resto was Teriyaki Boy! Been to Teriyaki Boy countless of times for it's good location and a very good place to meet up with friends.

I just love California Maki. Sweet Mango Cubes with crabmeat wrapped in Nori Seaweed and Japanese rice crusted with fish caviar! Yum! But Teryaki Boy's version is not that good. You could barely taste the crab and sometimes mango cube is too small you could barely taste the mango. The best California Maki I have tasted is at "Nonki" (SM City Cebu Fiesta Strip).

Sukiyake Beef Rice Bowl(Price: 155php) was my order that night. All I can say is that it was really oily. It was suppose to come with raw egg which I specifically instructed not to put in the bowl because of my triglycerides issue. hehe. I was not even halfway my bowl when I stopped eating. Some people like oily and bacony food, so peeps who are into these food definitely would love Sukiyaki Beef Rice Bowl. But this was just not for me!

Greg's order was Katsudon Rice Bowl (Price: 160php). This was a fave of mine before until it tasted strongly like MSG or something. I enjoyed its semi sweet, a little smokey taste before which my taste buds grew tired off.

Edd's Order was Gyoza (Price: 110php) with Yakimeshi (Price: 48php). For some reason, you'd notice that Teriyaki Boy's dishes has a little taste that is the same with the other fried entrees. Probably they use the same seasoning for all the main entrees. Edd said he can make a better version of Gyoza. hehe

Ahhh! Shakes! I love Fruit Shakes! And i love both Teriyaki Boy's Mango (Price: 65php) and Watermelon Shakes (Price: 65php) which comes in a slender sexy glass! raaawr! hehe. It's fresh and a real thirst quencher.
